The Centre de Recherche en Reproduction et Fertilité Student Committee (CECRRF) came into being thanks to the initiative of Dr. Christopher Price and the student representative at the time, Nour Abou Nader (PhD, Boyer laboratory), who until then had been responsible for organizing student activities, in collaboration with Esdras Correa Dos Santos (PhD, Zamberlam laboratory).

Officially created on March 30, 2023, the committee quickly mobilized to organize its first initiatives, emphasizing the importance of supporting students in their post-graduation orientation.

On May 9, 2023, at the first Work in Progress (WiP) where the CECRRF was involved in the organization, the committee welcomed Dr. Amanda Velasquez Salazar of Adoc Talent Management as a guest speaker at the CRCHUM. An interactive quiz on Kahoot was then offered to make the event more convivial and encourage networking between students from different sites. The day ended with a dinner at the Saint-Houblon restaurant, bringing together researchers and students in a friendly atmosphere.

The second WiP, organized with the support of the CECRRF, was held on November 9, 2023 at the CRCHUM. Dr. Geneviève Belleville, professor of psychology at Université Laval and author of Sit Down and Write Your Thesis!, shared practical advice on academic writing. The event continued with a laser tag social, followed by dinner at Les 3 Brasseurs restaurant.

On March 20, 2024, another WiP took place at FMV, where the CECRRF invited Ms. Julie Fafard, career development consultant, to lead a workshop on professional networking. After the student presentations, participants gathered for a convivial dinner at Mike’s restaurant.

Since then, the committee has expanded its membership by recruiting new members, enabling it to begin the process of being officially recognized as a student group at the Université de Montréal. In spring 2024, the committee received its first funding, paving the way for the organization of more activities for students in the network.
